Windmill Power Generator

See how different variables effect windmill power production. Big Idea(s): Numerical relationships that may logically appear to have a linear relationship often do not. Doubling wind speed has a dramatically larger impact on power production than doubling blade size.

Big Idea:

  • Wind power can be calculated to a very precise figure using a simply algebraic equation
  • Wind power increases at a factor of 8 for every doubling in wind speed
  • Wind power increases at a factor of 4 for every doubling in blade radius
